President’s Post – April 2019

Happy Easter to you All

I hope you the Easter Bunny is good to you all and all your chocolate is ‘calorie free’.

Next Wednesday we are having a session on CPR following on from our ‘First Responder’ session last year. Mark is returning for this session as requested by many of our members. Please wear suitable clothing for kneeling on the floor as we will be having a practical demonstration.

Our Sewing Day is coming up on 11th May at Hartley Wintney WI Hut in Hartley Wintney!

From 10am until 2pm we will be sewing washable sanitary towels to send to India for new mums. If you can’t sew – don’t worry there will be other jobs to do!

Please feel free to donate packs of new knickers small sizes are probably preferable as you can imagine these Indian ladies are very poor and are in large sizes.

We also need cotton to make the outside of the towels (I have enough fabric etc already cut to make the inners) and for bags to put the finished items in.. Please pre-wash the cotton if new (to allow for shrinkage) but it does not need to be new.

Please bring along your sewing machine (if you have one), scissors, pins, needles, thread. Any more questions – feel free to ask me.

There are two events coming up in June in Aldershot that we as a WI have been asked to support. The first is on June 1st – the RVS (Rushmoor Vouluntary Services) Get Involved day  – this year in Aldershot. We are having a a table and it will be a great opportunity to ‘sell’ ourselves and encourage new members. At this time we are asking volunteers to ‘man’ the stall for a couple of hours talking to ladies about the WI. We are hoping to get some volunteers to make cup cakes to give away as a little treat. Please let me know if you can spare a couple of hours!

The second event is Rushmoor’s Victoria Day. This event is on 8th June and there will be a parade around Aldershot Town Centre – this years theme is a Victorian Seaside theme. Anyone wishing to join the parade and dress up is welcome. Maria from Aldershot WI is going to try and build a cardboard bathing hut to walk in the parade with!

We are also having a Water into Wine stall so if you could be generous and donate a bottle of wine (in a wine bag) we would be very grateful. Please bring along to the next couple of  meetings.

Please let me know if you can help on the stall for a couple of hours and / or would like to take part in the parade.

This is a joint venture with our other local WI’s.

I think that is all (well I am hoping so)

See you all Wednesday

Kind regards

Rachel Neudegg
