President’s Post – May 2019

Presidents Post

Good afternoon Ladies I hope you are all well and enjoying the sunshine?

Hart

We have a busy year ahead of us as we are ‘looking after’ the HART Group of WI’s. The Tilly WIdgets WI have just completed their year and handed over to us on Monday evening

Quiz

Our first HART event that we are organising is the Quiz which is to be held at ‘home’ at North Farnborough Infants on Monday evening (20th May).

If any of you are available to come along and help on the night, we would be very pleased to see you. I know we already have a couple of volunteers, but more are always welcome. Even if it is for a few minutes at 6:30 to help set up (we have 13 teams! – that’s quite few tables and chairs!) Please drop either myself or Amanda an email if you can help.

Annual Meeting

Our Annual Meeting is on Wednesday 22nd May and we hope to see you all there. We will be serving you a glass of bubbly whilst we give you a brief (we hope) report of our year including a financial report. We are always looking for new Committee members – we meet once a month (so not too onerous) and help organise our meetings.

This year we are looking for a specific person – someone who could take minutes for the committee meetings (and at our main monthly meeting). Amanda is happy to continue to hold the title Secretary and this role will be a Minutes Secretary. Please let me know if you think this role might suit you? Or put your hand up at the meeting – we really are a friendly bunch!

Please feel free to nominate yourself for the roles of President / Secretary or Treasurer. If there are more than one nominee, then there will be a vote. Again, please let us know.

Email Rachel at:wiflyerspres@hampshirewi.org.uk

After the meeting we hope to share some of the ways you can communicate with us, use the MyWI on the national website and offer you the chance to share your ideas.

Evening Tea

Our June meeting is Evening Tea – a popular evening when we all bring a food donation to the table. There will be a list of suggested items there on Wednesday for you to sign up for. Maybe ½ a loaf of sandwiches or a tub of clotted cream – please sign your name for an item.

Social Sewing Day

Last Saturday we had our Social Sewing Day when we made reusable sanitary towels for the new Mums in India. 20 ladies (including 2 from Wales) joined us in Hartley Wintney’s WI hut where we cut, sewed, ironed, ate and drank (coffee and cakes) for 4 hours. There were 7 Hart WI’s represented with knicker donations from other WI’s. We had a very productive morning making over 40 towels (with more to come) and well over 50 bags. We have had over 120 pairs of knickers donated (thank you if you were one of those who donated) and even had a donation of knickers from Sainsburys!

Thank you to everyone who donated items and or time I know Kate (in India is overwhelmed by the support for this project. Watch the Hampshire and National Magazines to see if we make an appearance.
