Presidents Post March 2021

Presidents Post March 2021

Wishing you all A Very Happy Easter

Dear All

It’s great to have something positive to report, we seem to have some direction for moving forward. I am looking forward to the time when we can all meet up again. I cannot work out whether I think lockdown has gone very fast – or very slow?

I have taken on another role within the WI. I am now a co-opted member of the Hampshire Board of Trustees. This takes up a lot of time as part of this role includes being on the Speaker Selection Team (led by Penny) and the Events team (helping to plan Hampshire Events such as the online Speakers). This has kept me busy and therefore not missing quite as much of the outside world as I might have done.

Of course, just like all of you I miss daily contact with my family (although I am fortunate to see the granddaughters as we are part of their care). I haven’t seen by 92-year-old Dad for many months and would love my children and grandchildren to resume our regular Sunday lunches!

Thank you to all of you who have responded to my email last week. I am still happy to receive any more! We need to move forward coming out of lockdown and discuss the way to do this.

March Meeting – March 24th 2021

The Life of a Dairy Farmer’s Wife

Our next meeting in March is Jane Barnes and her talk is all about her life on her family run dairy farm where they produce milk for Stilton Cheese production at Long Clawson Dairy.

April Meeting – April 28th 2021

At April’s Meeting we look forward to welcoming Sarah Lott. Sarah will be showing us how to create a life story from family memories to follow up from our January meeting ‘How to Research your Family Tree.’

Annual Meeting – May 26th 2021

Unfortunately once again we have to hold The Annual Meeting virtually (by Zoom). The Annual Report and Financial Statements will be sent to you before this meeting. We will be voting and welcoming new members to the Committee and nominating and voting the role of President. Once we have done the business side of the meeting we will be welcoming Susie Cooper (member of the Tilly WIdget WI and Board of Trustees ) who will give us an entertaining talk on her life as a train driver.

June Meeting – 23rd June 2021

Many of us take photographs and hope that it might ‘capture the moment’ as we see it. In June we will be lucky enough to hear from David Chapman, Wildlife and Landscape photographer who is going to tell us all how we can improve our photography and those moments.

The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith

Although we can now see a glim light flickering at the end of the Lockdown tunnel, many of us will still be housebound for a while and would find ourselves adrift without a good book to keep our spirits up.    It’s true – reading gives us entertainment and escapism.  But it also helps us to grow – what we learn on...
