Presidents Post – July 2021

After all the rain we’ve been having, it looks as though we are in for a spell of nice weather to lift our spirits.  Boris has now set up his roadmap, and restrictions will be lifted next week.  We will be having our first two in person meetings outside, then we will be going back to indoor meetings.  I would ask you that in both instances you give each other space, as some of us, (myself included) are not used to being in larger groups.
I am looking forward to meeting up with you in July, and welcoming in person our two new members, Sue and Trish we hope you will enjoy the WI and make new friends.

28th July

For our meeting on the 28th July, we will be getting together at Priory Street Park for games and a picnic. we will be starting from 7pm.
We will provide the games, so please dress appropriately, trainers and comfy casuals might be best. Bring your own chair, picnic, and some hand sanitiser.  We will be doing our Champagne raffle, so a £1 for a raffle ticket would be appreciated, and we will also be collecting items for The Church of the Good Shepherds Food Bank, click here for items needed.

August 25th

Our August meeting will also be outside, our secret garden is the community garden at North Farnborough Station Masters House.  We will have a tour of the garden, and a talk on how it came to be started.
We will meet at 7pm. Please bring a picnic and a mug for a hot drink.

22nd September

At our first Indoor meeting in September we will be starting our Annual Christmas appeal.  This year we are supporting Step by Step in Aldershot. Click here for websiteThis charity supports young people who have not had the best start in life.  We are planning to make them Christmas stockings, which we can fill with a few essentials and treats.

We have recently heard back from the school, and they are happy for us to return in September, we have asked them to pencil us in for October.  However, in the meantime we had approached Cove Cricket Club, who were happy to cover the winter meetings.  Rose and Rachel looked at this hall and really liked it, the only drawback is availability in the summer. As we have already confirmed the Cricket Club we will meet there for September.  As much as we love North Farnborough Infant School, it does create a lot of work for the committee and helpers, so I would ask you when we meet at the cricket club to keep an open mind, so that we can have a discussion about the pros and cons of continuing at North Farnborough or moving to Cove Cricket Club.
As we start to open up, please keep safe, and I look forward to meeting you all in July.
