Presidents Post – August 2021

How are your staycations going? Or perhaps you have braved air travel and the dreaded testing and paperwork.  I could do with some sunshine…. especially since after a heatwave our first face to face meeting was in a monsoon!!  Thanks to Rachel and Rose for providing gazebos so it could have been worse. Lovely to see new member Anne who joined us for the first time, it will only get better. I would also like to welcome Brenda and Theresa to the WI-Flyers, I hope you enjoy your WI.
Check out the Rainbow, it must be lucky…

Priory Street Rainbow

Our next meeting is on Wednesday 25th August from 7pm at the Community Garden at Farnborough North Station, Farnborough Street GU14 8AQ.
There is very limited parking near the station, so you might be better to park in surrounding roads.  Please be aware you will need to cross the railway crossing only when there is a green light, and not too many at a time.
We will be having a talk about the garden how it started and their plans for the future. There are benches to sit on, or you might prefer to bring your own chair. We did suggest you bring a picnic, which of course you are welcome to do, but as we can prepare tea/coffee on site, the committee have decided to treat you to cake, for which a donation would be appreciated.

I will again bring a bag for any foodbank items – click here for list of suggested items  and Rachel is decorating our champagne raffle £1 a ticket, won last month by Hazel.

At the moment we are being very fluid about our meetings, however things do need to be booked/planned, especially for next year. After eight years on the committee, (whilst not completely running out of ideas) I could do with some ideas from you, so if there is anything you would like to do, a topic you would like to know more about, then I can be contacted at  or phone 07970 269797

Don’t forget we are part of a wider WI, Aldershot are taking over Hart Group of which we are a member,  so you can join in two extra meetings a year, a Christmas celebration and other activities which we will advertise as soon as we get dates.

Check out the links to Hampshire Federation events below. I understand that the Solent Cruise and Cream Tea on Wednesday was enjoyed by all those that went.
